Three’s A Crowd – Too Many Recruiters In The Mix

We had a great response to last week’s post about attracting candidates. For those of you who missed it check out the link – https://corvinfox.co.uk/finding-your-hidden-gem-how-to-improve-candidate-attraction/

Here’s another challenge that stops companies attracting talent for permanent management roles.

Too Many Recruiters in the Mix
In the recruitment profession it’s known as contingent recruitment.  This is where the client engages with multiple recruiters to fill a role.  It works on a “no win, no fee” basis.  When recruitment businesses are working on a contingent job they need to decide how much resource they allocate e.g. advertising spend, recruiter time on screening and interviewing, overheads etc. You would expect the more recruiters you have on a role the more candidates you attract, however, it works out the exact opposite. As there are other recruiters in the mix the likelihood of filling the role is reduced significantly.  Therefore, less time and spend will be allocated.  It also ends up diluting the process.  The recruiters will end up targeting the same people.  They will only target those who are actively looking for work which is approx 25% of the talent pool.

The analogy I like to use,  is when you’re driving down a street looking at houses to buy. You see one with 5 for sale signs up and a similar house with one for sale sign.  What house are you going to enquire about?  Not the one with 5 for sale signs I expect… The same can be said for recruiting talent.

The Fix
We work in partnership with our client as the sole recruiter.  We engage with passive (a head hunt/exec search approach) employees and complement this with a targeted advertising campaign. We have a weekly Teams meeting with our client, giving them full transparency of where we are on the campaign and discuss solutions to any blockers.   We showcase the client’s brand and make it a positive experience for the candidates.

Candidates on this journey are more committed and sustainable in the roles.

Another advantage of this is we can create a capacity plan on the number of permanent management roles we can work on.  We have one slot available this week and two slots next week.  Give us a call on 01775 729590 if you’d like to discuss how we can support you.
