How Work Mentality Affects Life Outside Of Work
Earlier this year I joined a band, something in which I had no intention to revisit after hanging up my boots in my late teens, and played my first show in 10 years back in June.
I don’t think I was prepared for how quickly the journey would gain speed.
Since then, we’ve played numerous shows and by the end of this year will have played 17 shows ranging from Durham down to London. Not quite Land’s End to John o’ Groats but little acorns and all that.
One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is just how much my work mentality has spilt into this side of my life.
These are the top two areas for me:
- Clearly planned timelines – Whether this is for learning new songs, mapping out recording processes or organising schedules for gig logistics, it all comes down to clear planning of timelines. This is something that is very prevalent within the Corvin Fox recruitment process. A clearly defined permanent process is at the very heart of how we deliver a fantastic service.
- Hitting targets – At Corvin Fox, whether it’s business development, candidate attraction or shortlist totals, we’ve got our KPIs down to a tee. Every gig regardless of the amount of people we are playing to, I have a pre-show target. This may be anything from making sure I get a singalong through to more extreme targets such as “can I launch myself from that table?”. It drives me. How far can I push things? How far can I improve the “show”?
As you can see very clear targets, milestones and deadlines run throughout our process which leads to many fantastic placements ranging from Quality Managers to Group Operations Directors.
