Time To Act – Boosting Inclusion and Diversity In The Recruitment Process

Inclusion and diversity.

This is one of the biggest things in recruitment right now.

It is something that we should be challenging to improve and not doing so restricts your current team, as well as having a huge impact on your recruitment drive. An article from Glassdoor, highlighted that over 30% of candidates wouldn’t apply for a role where there is a lack of diversity amongst the workforce and 75% of job seekers and employees reported that inclusion and diversity is important when evaluating companies and job offers.

Whether inclusion and diversity are of interest or not, it’s time to act!

Let’s look at a couple of aspects you can be doing today!

Adverts

There are quick wins with adverts around the language you are using. Removing certain gender-biased words such as “leader” can increase the interaction from the wider demographic. Also removing ethnic-biased terms such as “native” or “tribe” can also help boost your interaction.
The inclusion of a diversity statement can also be a powerful tool you can use to your advantage to welcome a diverse pool of candidates to apply, as well as singing about the diversity and inclusion culture in your business. There are many tools out there to help with this, but here is one from TotalJobs which we have found useful.

Searching for Candidates

Here at Corvin Fox, as part of our recruitment process, we take a headhunt approach alongside a targeted advertising campaign. As part of this we reach out to circa 150 passive candidates (candidates not looking for a role). We have carried out samples on diversity splits between the most common positions we see within Operations, Technical and Executive positions. With this information, we actively challenge ourselves to increase diversity within our passive lists as well as within our shortlists. If this is something that you would like visibility of let me know!

These are just a handful of many initiatives that can be done within the recruitment process to encourage and increase inclusion and diversity.

This cannot be swept under the rug and needs to be something that you live and breathe. If you want to hear how we can support you with encouraging an inclusive recruitment process, give us a call on 01775 729590.

Have a great week.
