Yoga, Birds, Plants and Tunes – A Look at Retention and Wellbeing
One of the most important elements in any business is the staff retention and their well-being. Having a high staff turnover can cost! Not just money, but valuable time and resources too.
The pandemic has had a huge impact on worker’s well-being. A staggering 89% of workers experiencing poor mental health, reported impacts on their working life due to the pandemic. Whether it’s lower productivity, calling in sick, or even leaving their job, the signs are there, pointing to workplace well-being having a massive effect on working life!
Some of the things we have in the Corvin Fox office to help with well-being include:
- The Corvin Fox Bangers Hour. Every Friday we share some of the best tunes we’ve heard throughout the week in an awesome hour of music!!
- Individual yoga mats and a file on our shared drive called ‘yoga’ where we keep all the best and worst yoga videos we have tried as a team.
- A birdbath on the balcony so we can watch the birds (mostly pigeons…) as we work.
- Plants all over the office and on every desk! Studies have shown that plants provide mental health benefits by making us feel calm, relaxed and they also improve our physical surroundings by providing us with clean air.
- Gambling notes on the whiteboards…. I mean “team bonding notes”.
- Working from home as and when we need to. We work well in the office but sometimes WFH can be really helpful and having the flexibility is great.
- The apple and fruit KPIs to ensure we are staying on top of eating healthy food.
Some ideas that we have seen companies do are:
- Family fun days. I know Bakkavor Spalding have a massive fun day every year for their employees!
- Annual picnics.
- Nature walks around their fields.
- Office Pool tables.
- Exercise challenges.
- Team hikes.
These are just a few ideas as the options are endless and the benefits received from doing these for your staff are definitely evident.
Disengaged, unmotivated or unsupported employees are more likely to underperform and even leave a company due to poor workplace culture. So, on top of all of this, one of the most important aspects is offering employees opportunities to progress, learn and feel motivated.
